Plan your impact: how to plan the comms of a research project?
Time and place:
8.10. at 12–16 Pub 5 (Publicum, Assistentinkatu 7)
22.10. at 12–16 Edu2 (Educarium, Assistentinkatu 5)
The training consists of two parts. The first focuses on the impact and interaction of a research project, and the second on good project communication.
Part 1: Impact, Decision-Making, and Processes for Researchers, 8.10.2024
Researchers are increasingly expected to engage in societal interaction, as outlined in university laws. But what does this entail, and how can researchers get started? We’ll begin with an introduction to the many ways in which researchers can interact with society. The training helps researchers identify the key stakeholders relevant to their work and find the most suitable means of engagement for their specific topics.
We’ll also explore how researchers can influence policy processes and why this is important. We will cover decision-making, its timelines, and the best windows of opportunity for influence at both local and national levels. Special attention will be given to influencing the regional councils that govern the newly established well-being regions in Finland. We’ll also discuss the anatomy of an effective policy brief, how to write one, and how to distribute it effectively. The training will be held by senior interaction specialist Sonja Kärkkäinen and public affairs specialist Mikko Kivenne from sustainable development agency Kaskas.

Part 2: Best Practices for Scientific Project Communication, 22.10.2024
How do you write a good communication and interaction plan? We’ll cover the basics of good project communication, both for when you’re applying for funding as well as when you actually need to execute it. We will also work on creating clear and engaging core messages to effectively communicate research and its impact to both close collaborators and audiences outside of your own field. The training will be held by Liisa Mayow, founder and leading expert of Kaskas.
