MPINVEST is a cross-disciplinary international study programme within INVEST Research Flagship Centre at the Department of Social Research, Faculty of Social Sciences.
You will learn from world-class social and behavioural scientists. The programme has a strong emphasis on quantitative research skills. These make the programme unique both in Finland and in Europe at large.

What will you study?
The INVEST Master’s Programme combines advanced academic studies, strong quantitative research skills and hands-on experience in a leading research environment.
The two-year degree consists of 120 ECTS, including 99 ECTS of compulsory studies and 21 ECTS of elective studies. Your studies include subject studies, quantitative methods, language studies, a master’s thesis and thesis support, as well as studies that prepare you for working life.
First year: Build your research skills
During your first year, you will develop a strong foundation in both quantitative research methods and the key themes studied at INVEST.
The programme welcomes students from different academic backgrounds. Prerequisite courses help you become familiar with the central concepts and methods used at INVEST, while you gradually begin developing the idea and research proposal for your master’s thesis.
Second year: Become part of the research community
In your second year, the focus shifts towards thematic seminars and your master’s thesis.
Your thesis is closely connected to the research environment at INVEST. In the INVEST Research Proposal Workshop, you will develop your thesis project following the model of an academic research project. You will choose your research topic in collaboration with principal investigators from INVEST research groups and receive support throughout the research process.
The aim is ambitious: your thesis should have the potential to be developed into a research article suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal.
Put your knowledge into practice
The programme also prepares you for life beyond university.
A three-month internship gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a professional setting relevant to your education and gain valuable work experience. You will receive guidance both before and during your internship.
The second year also offers opportunities for exchange studies, allowing you to broaden your academic and international experience.
