Laura Heiskala Awarded a €45,000 Grant by the Alfred Kordelin Foundation
The Alfred Kordelin Foundation has awarded a €45,000 grant to Laura Heiskala, Senior Researcher at the INVEST Research Flagship Centre, to support her postdoctoral research. The foundation, which has recently reformed its grant practices, awarded grants this year to 24 newly graduated PhDs to support their career paths and enable their advancement in working life.
Laura Heiskala completed her doctorate in December 2024. Her dissertation was titled Opportunity, Choice, and Barriers: A Register-Based Study on Social Stratification in Higher Education in Finland. Her postdoctoral research project, funded by the grant, focuses on Social Mobility Within Planetary Boundaries.
In total, the Alfred Kordelin Foundation distributed €3.5 million to promote science, art, and public education. Grants were awarded to 69 applicants.
The Foundation’s grant scheme was renewed this year. Instead of numerous small grants, the foundation now allocates larger grants, enabling more extensive projects with longer-term perspectives that extend beyond the grant period. The renewed call attracted significant interest, with a total of 2,290 applications submitted.
