Dr Robin Dunbar is a renowned British biological anthropologist, evolutionary psychologist, and expert in primate behaviour. He is a professor emeritus of evolutionary psychology within the Social and Evolutionary Neuroscience Research Group at the University of Oxford’s Department of Experimental Psychology. His research explores the behavioural, cognitive, and neuroendocrinological mechanisms underlying social bonding in primates, with a particular focus on humans.

He is best known for developing Dunbar’s number, which estimates the cognitive limit on the number of stable social relationships a person can maintain. In his upcoming lecture, Dr Dunbar will discuss pair bonding from an evolutionary perspective, emphasizing the role of friendship.
