INVEST Master’s Student Yuting Li Honored with GGP Best Master Thesis Award 2025

Yuting Li, a master’s student in the INVEST master’s programme, has been awarded the international GGP Best Master Thesis Award 2025 for her research on housing, satisfaction, and fertility intentions in the Nordic context.

Li conducted her thesis Housing Tenure, Housing Satisfaction, and Fertility Intentions in the Nordic Context of the Early 2020s at the Master’s Degree Programme in Inequalities, Interventions and New Welfare State under the supervision of University Research Fellow Jessica Nisén and Professor Mirkka Danielsbacka.

The Generations and Gender Programme announced that this year’s competition was exceptionally strong, and the evaluation jury — Prof. Dr. Aat Liefbroer (NIDI-KNAW and University of Groningen) and Dr. Petra Međimurec (University of Zagreb) — was impressed by the quality and originality of all submitted theses, making the final decision very challenging. Yuting Li’s work stood out for its timely and relevant research question, cross-national design using GGS-II data, strong empirical execution, interesting approach of combining subjective and objective measures, and valuable insights into how housing conditions intersect with fertility intentions in Nordic societies.

During her studies, Li completed an internship with the multidisciplinary FLUX consortium which seeks evidence-based solutions for influencing and adapting to changes in fertility dynamics that accelerate population ageing. The overarching goal is to improve the social and economic sustainability of Finnish society.
