Marta Facchini has been awarded the MSCA grant

INVEST Postdoctoral researcher Marta Facchini has been awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) European Postdoctoral Fellowship. This competitive mobility grant, funded by the European Commission, will allow them to carry out their research at the University of Turku in Finland.

The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship aims to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. It provides opportunities for researchers holding a PhD to conduct their research activities abroad, acquire new skills through advanced training and develop their careers.

The fellowship, administered by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and UTU Research Services, will provide a total funding of €226,276. The funded project, “Insecure Parents and Children: A Sequence Analysis Approach. A Holistic Investigation of the Role of Employment Uncertainty in the Reproduction of Social Inequalities” (INSEQU), will run from July 2026 to June 2028 under the supervision of Professor Elina Kilpi-Jakonen.

“Scholars have investigated the role of parental education, social class, income, and employment status in the intergenerational transmission of social inequality. Less is known about the effects of precarious jobs, albeit it is a common experience in post-Fordist societies. Employment uncertainty has been linked to lower income, job prospects, and health of the worker and their partner. Emergent literature has linked snapshot measures of parents’ non-standard jobs to children’s development and educational path. In this project, I plan to analyze the link between parents’ employment trajectories and children’s outcomes, from perinatal to mental health and educational trajectory.”
