Beyond the Nordic Welfare State

Our aim has been to develop a new research‑based approach for welfare states that helps renew and update their policies in a time of demographic change, economic pressure, and growing societal complexity. Beyond the Nordic Welfare State – Extending Social Investments with Interventions presents this framework by combining long‑term social investments with targeted interventions and systematic impact evaluation.

Combining theoretical contributions, comparative studies and Finnish case analyses, the book provides clear insights into how interventions can generate long-term benefits for individuals and society. It offers researchers, policymakers, and practitioners a timely perspective on renewing and strengthening welfare states in Europe and beyond.

Kirjan esittely: "Social investment is a key component of contemporary European social policy debates, but this influential paradigm is not without limitations. Featuring recognized specialists of Nordic welfare states, this strong interdisciplinary volume addresses such limitations through the development of an innovative policy approach that combines long-term social investments with targeted interventions." Daniel Beland, McGill University, Canada.
