INVEST Visitor: Bruno Arpino
In the “INVEST visitors” series, we present visiting professors and fellows who have arrived at the flagship INVEST. This time we are introducing professor Bruno Arpino.
I’m a full professor in Social Statistics at the Department of Statistical Sciences, University of Padua (Italy). My previous appointments include positions at the University of Florence (Italy) and at the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain) where I also co-directed the Research and Expertise Centre on Survey Methodology (RECSM). I’m an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Population. My research interests span social gerontology, social demography, and applied statistics. My research examines intergenerational relationships, the health and wellbeing of older adults, the use of digital technologies by older people, and fertility.
Why did you want to visit INVEST?
My decision to visit INVEST stems from a longstanding collaboration with several of its esteemed members, which has proven to be both intellectually stimulating and productive. INVEST’s mission of creating a more equitable and sustainable welfare state resonates deeply with my own research interests. The opportunity to engage with a multidisciplinary team at the forefront of welfare research, and to contribute to a dynamic ecosystem that fosters collaboration across academic, policy, and societal domains, is both exciting and invaluable.
What you expect/hope to reach during your visit in INVEST?
I hope to strengthen my collaborations with INVEST researchers and contribute to projects related to intergenerational relationships, the well-being of older adults, and digital technology use among seniors. I aim to exchange knowledge, explore new research avenues, and develop joint projects with real-world policy impacts. Additionally, I look forward to experiencing the Finnish summer and exploring Turku, balancing work with the cultural and natural richness of this unique location.
