Visiting Researcher Dr Paula Sheppard explores reproductive decision-making in Finland

Dr Paula Sheppard is an evolutionary anthropologist whose interdisciplinary research brings together family demography, behavioural ecology and reproductive decision-making. She is currently based at the University of Oxford and will join the University of Bristol in October.

Sheppard is visiting INVEST to build new research collaborations and academic connections, and to learn more about fertility and reproductive decision-making in the Finnish context.

During her visit, she hopes to develop a Finnish component for her ongoing research on reproductive decision-making. One of her aims is, if possible, to collect pilot data that could lay the groundwork for future research.

“I’m particularly interested in learning more about the Finnish fertility landscape and finding new opportunities for collaboration,” Sheppard says.

Her visit brings together complementary perspectives on fertility, families and demographic change – and opens possibilities for new comparative research between Finland and the UK.
