Prerequisite Basic Quantitative Methods
Please work through the material carefully and complete the assignment following the survey study instructions document. Course material is located in the demo folders. Start from the 1st lecture at day 1, and from that point forward, do the corresponding demos for each day after each lecture.
- Students will be evaluated based on a “survey study”
- Note: the three exercises during and after demo sessions are not evaluated, but they exist to teach the methodology needed for the survey study and to cultivate basic statistical skills
- For those who are at an advanced level of statistical methods: there is a possibility to skip the course by doing the Skip this course -exam.

Learning objectives
This course is an intensive online course designed to provide a solid foundation in quantitative research methods for students planning to conduct research in the social sciences. The goal is for students unfamiliar with quantitative research methods to learn basic statistical terminology, concepts, tests and techniques. Topics covered include descriptive measures (measures of central tendency and dispersion), simple bivariate analyses (e.g. crosstabulation), three way cross tabulation (elaboration), tests of significance and measures of association.
Assessment methods
The course completely self-study and online. It is realized as both introductory lectures and as basic statistical exercises using excel over a period of 3 days. Students will be evaluated based on a “survey study” completed as individual work.
