INVEST Flagship Welcomes Lucy Bowes as a Visiting Professor

Lucy Bowes is one of the top researchers in the field of Developmental Psychopathology. In INVEST, her key responsibilities include student mentoring and lectures.

Lucy Bowes.INVEST Flagship has granted the position of visiting professor at the University of Turku to Lucy Bowes for the period of March 2022–February 2024. Bowes is a professor of Developmental Psychopathology at University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the impact of early life stress on psychological and behavioral development.

Bowes will visit Turku each year as a senior scientific advisor. Her key responsibilities include student mentoring and lectures.

– I am greatly looking forward to sharing and developing research ideas with students and researchers at INVEST Flagship and can’t wait to meet you all, Bowes says.

Visiting Professors Promote International Collaboration

Lucy Bowes is one of the top researchers in the field of Developmental Psychopathology. In particular, her research examines the effects of bullying and maltreatment on young people’s mental health and wellbeing. She has participated in research study to evaluate the effectiveness of KiVa Koulu programme which aims to reduce bullying in primary schools across the UK. She is also a co-director of a Leverhulme Doctoral Training Programme. She has graduated a PhD at King’s College London.

Visiting professors can and help us to strengthen our networks and promote international collaboration and researcher mobility, says Christina Salmivalli, INVEST Flagship Professor (Psychology) at University of Turku.

– Professor Bowes’s expertise is closely connected to our research themes. We are also looking forward to opportunities for collaboration in, for example, Leverhulme Doctoral Training Programme.

The Inequalities, Interventions, and New Welfare State (INVEST) is an Academy of Finland Flagship and a Joint Research Centre of the University of Turku and Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare. It aims at increasing wellbeing of Finnish society during childhood, youth and early adulthood and preventing psychosocial risks compromising such development through innovative interventions. INVEST aims at providing a new model for the welfare states that is more equal, better targeted to problem groups, more anticipatory as well as economically and socially sustainable.
