INVEST researchers’ article nominated for Kanter Prize

“Gender Inequality Reinforced: The Impact of a Child’s Health Shock on Parents’ Labor Market Trajectories,” by Maria Vaalavuo, Henri Salokangas, and Ossi Tahvonen, has been named as a finalist for the Kanter Award. The award raises awareness of excellent work–family research, fosters debate about standards of excellence, identifies the “best of the best” studies on which to base future research, and outlines specific implications of the research for work life and human resource professionals.

Maria Vaalavuo, Senior Researcher at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, and Henri Salokangas, Special Researcher, are researchers at INVEST Research flagship centre. Ossi Tahvonen is a PhD researcher at the University of Helsinki.

Named in honor of Rosabeth Moss Kanter, who has been identified as the most influential contributor to modern literature on work and family, the Kanter Award is given for the best research paper(s) published during the year. The rigorous award process involves a minimum of 60 scholarly reviewers from across the world who select the winners from more than 2,500 articles published in over 60 scholarly journals.

The award is a joint project of the Center for Families at Purdue University, the  the Boston College Center for Work and Family and its National Workforce Roundtable, and the Work and Family Researchers Network.

This year’s winner will be announced at the upcoming conference of the Work and Family Researchers’ Network on June 20, in Montreal. PAA and Demography congratulate the authors for their outstanding work and nomination.
